Army National Guard - What to bring to boot camp/basic training? - SGT Duncan
There are a million articles that talk about what you should bring to Army Basic Combat Training. Most of them contain a long list of items that are NOT necessary.
Let’s keep this list SIMPLE! Remember, everything you pack, you have to CARRY!
First off, you could realistically show up to the Basic Training Site and only have 4 things with you and be just fine!
Those items include:
Social Security Card
Here are some of the essentials that I would RECOMMEND you have with you. These items should fit in a SMALL bag! Most of the time a recruiter could provide this to you, but if not, it should look something like THIS BAG. It does not need to be expensive or large!
Personal Hygiene Items:
You only need enough to get you through reception, which is about a week. After that you will have the opportunity to purchase anything that is required. I recommend travel size on everything! You will be flying! You should not be checking a bag!
Deodorant - Must be in solid form
Toothbrush inside a ZIPLOCK bag
Bar of Soap
Disposable Razor - no electric!
Pens - (black only)
Black Sharpie - So you can write your name on EVERYTHING
Notebook for letters! (write your family/friends address IN THE NOTEBOOK)
Envelopes (stamp them before you go!)
Watch- Cheap simple watch! (all black)
Even though you will have LIMITED access to your phone, you will eventually be allowed to use it:
-Fully charged cell phone with charger. Turn it off when you arrive so it doesn’t die!
-Power bank for phone. There won’t be enough outlets for everyone!
I reccommend ONE change of clothes. Nothing more
Thats all I can think of! Remember pack LIGHT!!!
